Nostalgia - Elephant's Dung Trail

Way back in the 90s when I first started riding mountain bike in Johor, there isn't any clear path to go on our trail recce. It was an era where everything is still old school or can I just say digital cameras, GPS, tech phones has not found their way. So I can tell you there isn't much photos to show nor GPS track to show as I write this post.

I have no idea how we came across this place in Johor which I remembered is slightly off Desaru, a rugged jungle which is home to elephants. It was a random location by Alex and we simply stopped at hidden place, and start riding not knowing what is the trail like. A mid length ride of one way 25km with slight climbs will bring you to a very nice waterfall which we call our own private spa.

The trail, since we don't know where we were at that time is simply named Elephant's Dung Trail or in short EDT - named as a location where we first followed elephant tracks and dungs into the waterfall (probably elephants showered here).

It is really a lot, and a lot of elephant tracks & dungs here though we have not spotted any elephants here before. The dungs were fresh and usually found in big heaps. We are guessing since there are so many dungs, we figured one elephant can't shit so many times a day and hence concluded a whole load of family is staying right behind some bamboo forest.

It is also the only time I am happy to see so many dungs. But hey..do you actually know uhh, the water found in elephant dung is good enough to drink? haha :)

Anyhow, I found this very old piece of rock (pictured above that I brought back from the waterfall of the trail) while unpacking some old stuff from my hometown together with my first mountain biking gloves (which was given by Michael, the proprietor to Cyclemotion bike shop). It was my first love in mountain biking and it stays that way until today.
